The Academy of Merchant Marine (ΑΕΝ) in Neapolis, Voians, has officially welcomed its first cohort of students for the academic year 2025-2026. Out of a total of 1,808 applicants, 29 students will begin their studies at this newly established institution, which will house the Captain’s School.
The establishment of this school marks a significant milestone for the region of Laconia, enhancing maritime education and highlighting the area’s rich naval tradition. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive education, consisting of six academic semesters followed by two semesters of practical training aboard ships. This hands-on experience is guided by the current Study Regulations, ensuring that students receive the necessary skills and knowledge for their future careers.
The creation of the Academy has been a long-standing aspiration for the residents of Vatika, a goal that has been realized through the excellent collaboration between the Municipality of Monemvasia, the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, and the Region of Peloponnese. This partnership underscores the commitment to fostering maritime education and supporting local development.
As the Academy begins its journey, it not only represents an educational opportunity for the students but also serves as a beacon of hope for the local community, reinforcing the importance of maritime heritage in the region. The future looks promising as these students embark on their educational paths, contributing to the ongoing legacy of maritime excellence in Laconia.
