On January 12, 2026, a tragic incident unfolded in a community within the Municipality of Monemvasia, where the lifeless body of a 63-year-old local man was discovered in the yard of his family home. This shocking event has since taken an unexpected turn, leading to a complex investigation by the Hellenic Police.
According to a statement from the police, on February 6, 2026, a 68-year-old man was arrested by officers from the Crime Investigation Department of Sparta. He faces charges of false testimony and concealment related to the case. Additionally, four other individuals are implicated in various capacities, including charges of involuntary manslaughter, false testimony, and concealment.
Initially, the investigation was handled by the Molai Police Department. However, further inquiries by the Sparta Crime Investigation Department revealed that the 63-year-old had suffered fatal injuries from a fall while working at another residence for a 49-year-old woman. Consequently, a case file has been opened against her for involuntary manslaughter.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are particularly troubling. Following the fatal injury, the deceased’s body was transported by the 68-year-old relative and three other individuals to his family home. There, they placed the body in such a manner that it created a misleading impression that he had died at that location.
The arrested individual has since been released under a verbal directive from the relevant prosecutor, while the police investigation and preliminary inquiries continue under the jurisdiction of the Sparta Crime Investigation Department.
This case highlights the complexities of legal accountability and the lengths to which individuals may go to obscure the truth. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on edge, awaiting further developments in this unsettling situation.
