A fire broke out around 1:30 PM in the «Livadia» area of Agios Stefanos, Monemvasia, under circumstances that remain unclear. This incident has evoked memories of a similar fire that occurred a year earlier, in April 2024, from the same location.
In response to the emergency, both ground and aerial firefighting units were mobilized. A total of 35 firefighters, including a specialized team from the 9th EMODE, were deployed alongside 11 fire engines. Additionally, four firefighting aircraft and one helicopter conducted water drops to combat the flames.
Private individuals also contributed to the firefighting efforts with agricultural fire trucks, while the Greek Police were present to manage traffic and ensure public safety.
The swift and effective activation of the municipal civil protection services, particularly from the Monemvasia Municipal Unit, was noteworthy. They promptly arrived at the scene with machinery and water tankers to assist in the firefighting efforts.
As of now, the fire is under control, having burned through forested areas and some cultivable land. Fortunately, no homes or lives were endangered during this incident.
