A fire is currently raging in the settlement of «Lachi» in Voi, within the Municipality of Monemvasia. The blaze ignited in the southwestern area of the settlement, where low vegetation is prevalent, evoking memories of the devastating fire that struck the Vati region in 2015.
Strong winds in the area are exacerbating the fire’s spread; however, their direction is toward the sea, providing hope for containment and indicating that the settlement is not in immediate danger.
To combat the fire, a robust response has been mobilized, involving 22 firefighters, a hiking team from the 9th Emergency Response Unit, seven vehicles, two aircraft, and one helicopter. Additionally, the local civil protection agency is assisting with water tankers and machinery.
Residents have been alerted via the emergency number 112 to remain vigilant and prepared.
