Monemvasia, the stone ship that has carried the Malvasia wine across the Mediterranean and Europe, is set to welcome the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia for the second time from October 24-26, 2025. All eyes will be on the unique Monemvasia, highlighting it as an international meeting point for culture, gastronomy, and history.
Following the impressive inaugural event in 2023, the festival returns under the theme “In vino veritas,” inviting attendees to uncover the truths hidden in a glass of wine with centuries of history. Myth, historical truth, and artistic creation will converge in the cobbled streets of Monemvasia’s castle, crafting a three-day experience filled with wine tastings, musical concerts, and events celebrating literature and art.
The festival invites participants to explore the unique character of Malvasia wine and «travel» through the most notable wine-producing regions of its «family»—from Monemvasia, Paros, and Crete to Italy, Spain, Croatia, and Portugal.
The 1st Malvasia Wine Exhibition will introduce attendees to winemakers and wines from regions in Greece (Monemvasia, Crete, Paros), Italy (Parma-Piacenza, Crotone, Lipari/Sicily), Croatia (Istria), Spain (Sitges), and Portugal (Madeira).
The Malvasia Festival Monemvasia will be honored by the presence of partners from the international network Malvasia Myth Network, established in Monemvasia in 2023 and continuing to expand, as well as prominent international wine figures such as Beth Willard, Igor Luković, Cesar Soler, and Caroline Gilby (Master of Wine, UK), who will conduct a Malvasia wine masterclass.
At the heart of the festival lies the cultural heritage of Malvasia and the upcoming inclusion of “Sun-dried Malvasia wine” in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This wine has inspired poets, graced royal courts, and continues to generate new narratives through its taste.
The soundtrack of the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia 2025 will kick off with a musical performance by Sakis Papadimitriou, followed by the mystical Nama Dama and the «classical» Thisseas Gousas, culminating with Socrates Sinopoulos and his quartet.
The program will also feature wine-making activities, inviting participants to seek out, within the tapestry of poetic discourse, the threads that wine weaves into individual experiences and collective life. Additionally, literary events and historical guided tours of the castle will complete the experience.
