The Athletic Club of Monemvasia recently showcased its talent at the 20th Balkan Ju-Jitsu Championship 2025, held in Greece at the Olympic Facilities in the Palaia Gymnasium from September 11 to 14, 2025. This prestigious event attracted over 1,800 athletes from 21 countries, making it a highly competitive platform that provided invaluable experiences for participants.
Representing the club were five athletes competing in six categories, achieving remarkable results. Notably, Katerina Kontakou secured first place in both Fighting Ju-Jitsu and Newaza Ju-Jitsu, while Kyriakos Kostoulias finished in fifth place in Fighting Ju-Jitsu.
The achievements of the Monemvasia club extended beyond the podium. Athletes Katerina Birakou, George Charamis, and Fabio Nure faced tough competition in their respective categories, gaining significant experience that will benefit their future endeavors.
The club’s delegation concluded its participation with a highly positive outcome, both in terms of awards and competitive experience, highlighting the quality and systematic training that has been implemented.
Accompanying the athletes were their dedicated coaches, Anastasios Kontakos and Giannis Kontakos. Their unwavering commitment throughout the summer was instrumental in preparing the athletes, who demonstrated exceptional effort and determination to represent their city to the best of their abilities.
Looking ahead, the journey continues with the World Ju-Jitsu Championship scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, in early November 2025. The Athletic Club of Monemvasia will be represented by Katerina Kontakou, who aims to compete in both Fighting Ju-Jitsu and Newaza Ju-Jitsu, with aspirations of reaching new heights.
