Monemvasia is gearing up to welcome the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia for the second time from October 24-26, 2025. This vibrant festival will open its doors at the historic Castle of Monemvasia on Friday, October 24, inviting visitors from across Greece and beyond to embark on a unique journey through time, taste, and the culture surrounding one of history’s most renowned wines.
Themed “In vino veritas,” which translates to «In wine, truth,» the festival will unfold within the castle grounds, featuring a three-day schedule packed with events that encourage participants to experience the trilogy of “Initiation – Mystagogy – Communion.” Attendees will enjoy wine tastings, starry night concerts, strolls through cobbled streets, discussions, and activities that transform the celebrated wine into a personal experience while intertwining art with life.
Notable Personalities and Winemakers from the Mediterranean
Winemakers, sommeliers, and wine experts from Greece, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, and Spain will converge in Monemvasia, bringing with them rare versions of Malvasia wines—varietals that are seldom found in the Greek market.
The festival will culminate on Sunday, October 27, 2025, with two major events that shouldn’t be missed:
The “Malvasia of the World” masterclass led by Caroline Gilby MW (Master of Wine, UK)—one of the most prominent figures in the global wine industry. Participants will sample ten selected Malvasia wines from five different countries, uncovering the history, aroma, and power of a wine that bridges places and eras.
The 1st Malvasia Wine Exhibition, where 14 wineries from 8 production areas will showcase their labels to the public and industry professionals, accompanied by insights from international wine experts such as Beth Willard, Igor Luković, Cesar Soler, Meropi Papadopoulou, and Ivan Marić.
Entry to the Exhibition: €10 | Entry to the Masterclass & Exhibition: €30
These prices include a collectible Riedel tasting glass, specially designed for the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia. Reservations can be made via www.more.com, but seats are limited.
Wine Knowledge, Poetry, Speech, and Music – Three Nights Illuminated by Castle Light
From the mystical concert by Sakis Papadimitriou on the evening of October 24, to the pagan soundscapes of the Ukrainian-Cypriot Nama Dama on October 25, not to mention the spoken word performance “Wine and Whispers” by Maria Bakka and the guitar recital by Thisseas Gousas on October 26, music and poetry will be integral to the wine experience.
Discourse will deepen understanding of the collaborative regions known for their Malvasia styles, opening discussions about the cultural heritage associated with this storied wine.
The festival will wrap up with a performance by the Sokratēs Sinopoulos Quartet, filling the Panagia Chrysalithissa Square with the melodies of “Metamodal” during a night of pure communion.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This
The Malvasia Festival Monemvasia transcends a mere wine event; it is a cultural experience that bridges wine with history, memory, art, and humanity. If you cherish wine, storytelling, and music, and seek a journey where the senses converge with truth, Monemvasia awaits you.
