On November 30, at 5:30 PM, a significant literary event took place in Neapolis, where George Papachristos presented his unique book titled «This World I Want.» The event was held in a packed hall at the Neapolis Primary School, showcasing the author’s dynamic entry into the literary scene through the «Aliko» publishing house.
George, a talented and promising writer, aims to convey his messages and reflections on a world centered around humanity, particularly focusing on children. In his announcement, he poignantly stated, “We live in dark times, filled with cunning uphill battles. Do not ignore what is happening around us just because it does not currently affect us. Some children out there are suffering, and this is a reason enough for reflection and action.” He emphasized his belief that as long as there are people living under the shadow of war, he personally cannot celebrate. He hopes that his story will prompt readers to reconsider their perceptions and beliefs about the society we owe to future generations.
The event was organized by the Parents and Guardians Association of Neapolis Primary School and featured contributions from various professionals, including psychologists Joanna Ismyrnioglou and Chrysa Kontakou, educator George Barbagiannis, the Artistic Association «Techni Chro,» and the Modern Dance Department of the local primary school.
In his announcement, Papachristos dedicated the story to the memory of his mother, who taught him to respect all living beings on this planet, and to his father, who has been his steadfast supporter. He expressed gratitude to all those who have shaped his life and helped him through difficulties, allowing readers to hold his book today.
The narrative addresses the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which began in February 2022 and continues to this day. This war has resulted in countless children losing their homes, families being torn apart, and dreams being shattered. Despite these harsh realities, many continue their lives in a bubble, often failing to learn from such distressing events or seizing the opportunity to create a better world for tomorrow.
The story revolves around three young individuals who come together to reveal the world we must pass on to our children.
George Papachristos hails from Karitsa Pieria and Neapolis Laconia, where he grew up, lives, and works. He studied Accounting and Finance at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus. An amateur marathon runner, he has participated in the Authentic Athens Marathon and numerous other races both in Greece and abroad. His passion for children, instilled by his parents who are primary education teachers, drives him to highlight the importance of the pure and selfless spirits of our young friends, who embody hope for a better future.
