The Athletic Club of Monemvasia made its mark on the international stage by participating in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 7 to November 14, 2025. This prestigious event attracted 4,000 athletes from 70 countries, showcasing the global spirit of this martial art.
Among the competitors was the club’s own athlete, Katerina Kontakou, who qualified impressively through her performance at the National Championship. She competed in two rigorous categories: the Fighting System and Ne-waza System. Katerina’s tenacity and skill led her to achieve notable placements—5th in the Fighting System and 9th in the Ne-waza System, underscoring her remarkable talent and competitive maturity.
Katerina’s journey reflects her dedication to training, discipline, and resilience in each match. Her performance serves as a testament to the idea that with persistence and commitment, one can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s elite athletes.
The team was accompanied by Coach Ioannis Kontakos, who commended Katerina for her success, emphasizing that she «represented our region and Greece with honor.»
