A gathering for protest is set to take place on Sunday, January 4, at 12:00 PM on the beach of «Agia Thekla,» organized by the Citizen Group «Ampelakia SOS.» This initiative aims to rally associations, local authorities, and engaged citizens in response to a controversial decision by the Property Agency to lease a 499 square meter area on Agia Thekla beach to a private individual, as well as a similar parcel at «Ampelakia» beach located in the Xiφia settlement of the Community of Nomia in the Municipality of Monemvasia.
The announcement emphasizes the importance of public beaches as shared natural resources that are integral to local life, environmental integrity, and cultural identity. Activists highlight the critical need for collective awareness and call upon community members to actively support this cause.
The response from the local community indicates a growing concern for the protection of public coastal areas, underscoring their significance not only for leisure and recreation but also for their ecological and cultural value. The protest is expected to gather a considerable number of participants, reflecting a broader social movement advocating for the preservation of shared public spaces against privatization.
As citizens prepare to voice their concerns, the event highlights an essential dialogue regarding environmental conservation and community involvement in local governance. Those interested in participating are encouraged to join, demonstrating solidarity in the fight for the preservation of their beloved beaches.
