On January 10, 2026, a significant protest took place against the ongoing installation of wind turbines in the Parnon region, drawing over 200 participants. This demonstration, organized by various local groups, involved a hike to the site of the proposed wind farm at «Korombilia – Mazaraki,» near Kosmas in Arcadia.
Participants began their march from the Battle Monument (Festoutsi) in Kosmas, witnessing firsthand the environmental destruction caused by the project. They observed the widening of roads through the forest, the cutting down of hundreds of fir trees, and a drastic alteration of the landscape. Notably, part of a mountain peak at «Korombilia» has been leveled to create a platform for the wind turbines.
Following the hike, a discussion was held at the village’s primary school, featuring representatives from various environmental movements across Greece, including those from Mainalo, Tinos, Agrafa, the Municipality of Saronikos, and Argolis. The school hall transformed into a hub for networking and mutual encouragement among these movements. The conversation concluded with a commitment to ongoing nationwide coordination and suggestions for better organizing the fight in Kosmas.
The event was organized by several local initiatives, including the «Initiative for the Protection of Kosmas,» the «Climbing-Mountaineering Club of Leonidio,» the «Committee for the Salvation of Parnon,» the «Cultural Association of Leonidio,» and the «Initiative for the Protection of Parnon.»
