In the sacred city of Messolonghi, a delegation from the Municipality of Eastern Mani attended commemorative events on April 4 and 5, 2026, marking the 200th anniversary of the heroic exit of the Free Besieged. This significant occasion not only celebrates a pivotal moment in Greek history but also highlights the enduring bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two municipalities.
The connection between Messolonghi and Eastern Mani is deeply rooted, particularly as the remains of the esteemed Maniot leader Kyriakos Mavromichalis rest in the Garden of Heroes in Messolonghi. This shared history underscores the importance of remembrance and honor for those who fought valiantly for the freedom of their homeland.
During the memorial events, the Eastern Mani delegation paid their respects to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence. The delegation included Deputy Mayors Ms. Eleni Drakoulakou and Ms. Konstantina Vasilouni, alongside members of the Honorary Body of the Municipality of Eastern Mani.
These commemorative activities serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for liberty and the ongoing commitment to preserving the memory of those who fought for Greece’s freedom. The events not only honor the past but also inspire future generations to cherish and uphold the values of courage and resilience.
