This year, the festivities drew a large crowd, eager to witness the spectacle that has become a hallmark of Monemvasia’s Easter celebrations. Notably, for the past two years, the tradition has evolved to include not one, but two effigies of Judas, allowing even more attendees to engage with this unique cultural experience.
On April 12, 2025, at 6:30 PM, the Development Association of the Castle, in collaboration with the Municipality of Monemvasia, initiated the first burning ceremony in the vibrant square of Chrysaftitissa. The effigy, paraded through the charming streets of the Castle, culminated in a dramatic display that attracted hundreds of spectators, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Later that evening, at 8:15 PM, another effigy was set ablaze in the coastal area of «Gefyra.» This event, organized by the Union of Entrepreneurs of Monemvasia in partnership with the Municipality and the Fishermen’s Association, featured the effigy placed on a floating platform. This innovative approach allowed visitors to witness the burning against the stunning backdrop of the sea, providing a truly unique and immersive experience.
