The Mountaineering Club of Molai and NE Laconia is organizing a unique expedition to the enchanting Valia Kalda National Park from June 12 to June 14, 2026. This destination is one of Greece’s most pristine and breathtaking mountainous areas, known in Vlach as «Warm Valley.» Nestled in a secluded and authentic corner of Pindus, it spans nearly 69,000 acres, straddling the borders of the Grevena and Ioannina regions.
Valia Kalda features the stunning Valia Kalda valley, the Arkoúdrema river, and the imposing peaks of Lygkos and Mavrovouni. The elevation ranges from 1,200 to 2,177 meters, with the prominent peak of Avgo dominating the landscape. Dense forests of black pine, beech, and fir create a backdrop of rare natural beauty, while rivers and rushing streams, such as the Aoos, carve through the area, forming impressive gorges. The steep cliffs and rugged terrain contribute to a breathtaking scenery that captivates all who visit.
This region is also one of Greece’s most significant habitats, hosting a rich array of wildlife, including brown bears, wolves, wildcats, deer, and wild goats, as well as rare birds of prey like the golden eagle and vultures. Valia Kalda is a site of great ecological, biological, and aesthetic value, unique on both a national and European scale.
The itinerary for the trip may be adjusted based on conditions such as weather, trail difficulty, and participant capabilities, under the guidance of the leaders.
