In the Municipality of Monemvasia, a citizen initiative has been introduced to upgrade the Neapolis Municipal Stadium «Kostas Tsakos», which, as of June 25, 2026, has garnered the support of 203 individuals. This initiative aims to create a modern and safe sports facility for children, athletes, and local clubs, focusing on several key enhancements:
- The construction of a three-lane training-level tartan track.
- The establishment of a long jump pit.
- The installation of throwing valves.
- The upgrading of locker rooms and auxiliary spaces.
Responding to the community’s request, independent municipal councilor Apostolos Fousias has submitted a proposal for discussion regarding the stadium’s upgrade in upcoming council meetings. This proposal is accompanied by a comprehensive study of the track layout and addresses the overall enhancement of the region’s sports infrastructure.
Fousias expressed his belief that all council members will contribute responsibly to advance this significant request from the local community. He emphasized, “With respect for institutions and the prescribed processes, I am confident that the institutional capabilities exist. What is required is a collective will to transform a longstanding request into a shared success for the entire Municipality of Monemvasia.”
This initiative not only reflects the community’s aspirations for improved sports facilities but also highlights the importance of collaboration among local leaders to realize these goals. The proposed upgrades are expected to foster a more vibrant athletic culture, benefiting both current and future generations of athletes in the region.
