A significant event focused on the preservation of tradition and historical memory in the region is being co-organized by the Peloponnese Region (Laconia Prefecture), the Geronthra Cultural Association, and the Society of Spartan Studies, in collaboration with the Living Cultural Heritage Network.
This open discussion, titled «The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Laconia: Challenges & Prospects,» is part of the celebrations for the European Heritage Days 2026. The event will take place at the Geraki Conference and Exhibition Center on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This initiative responds to the ongoing interest from various stakeholders and citizens, as evidenced by the activities of the Laconian Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, aimed at safeguarding the cultural identity of Laconia.
The discussion aims to reflect on how to protect local traditions, raise awareness about the threats they face, and utilize modern tools to pass them on to future generations. Additionally, a practical workshop on Cultural Planning and Development will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. Evgenia Bitsani, a Professor of Cultural Policy & Management at the University of the Peloponnese.
