In the picturesque town of Molai, nestled within the region of Monemvasia, the annual General Clergy Conference of the Holy Metropolis of Monemvasia and Sparta unfolded on the afternoon of September 28, 2026. This gathering took place at the renowned «Estate of Hesperides,» setting a serene backdrop for a day dedicated to spiritual reflection and connection among clergy members.
Building on the success of the previous year’s initiative, His Eminence Metropolitan Efstathios extended a heartfelt invitation to the presbyters, acknowledging their vital role in supporting the ministry of clergy. This inclusivity highlighted a genuine appreciation for the collaborative efforts within the church community.
Before the conference officially commenced, a solemn prayer was offered for the success of the conference’s objectives, alongside a traditional Trisagion for the souls of clergy members who had departed in the past year—reminding attendees of the spiritual ties that bind them across timelines.
The event was initiated by the Metropolis preacher, the Reverend Archimandrite Raphael Tsaltas, who welcomed the attendees warmly and praised the unwavering concern of the Metropolitan for the well-being of clergy families. His greeting set a positive tone for the proceedings.
In his address, Metropolitan Efstathios expressed gratitude to the conference participants while emphasizing the indispensable support that presbyters provide through their patience and continuous encouragement, reiterating their integral role in the clerical vocation. He then introduced the keynote speaker, the esteemed Protopresbyter Spyridon Vasilakos from the Holy Metropolis of Thebes, Livadia, and Avlida, highlighting not only his spiritual depth but also his contributions to theological literature.
The central theme of the conference was delivered by Father Spyridon, who spoke on the profound relationship between priests and presbyters in a world where communication is abundant, yet true communion remains scarce. This rich discourse was rooted in the biblical passage, «It is not good for the man to be alone,» prompting thoughtful reflections on companionship and support within the ministry.
Following Father Spyridon’s insightful presentation, a dynamic dialogue ensued. Both the Metropolitan and the speaker engaged with pressing questions posed by the attendees, fostering an environment of open discussion and shared learning.
The conference culminated with a fellowship meal, which provided an opportunity for further connection among participants. As a gesture of appreciation, Metropolitan Efstathios gifted Father Spyridon an epigonation, a symbol of respect and acknowledgment of his contributions.
Lastly, Bishop Theophilos of Lacedaimonia conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Metropolitan for his ongoing commitment to the clergy, wishing him health and longevity in continuing his multifaceted spiritual, charitable, and social endeavors.
This conference not only served as a platform for clergy members to strengthen their bonds but also highlighted the essential role of community and support within their sacred mission.
