The Chania International Photo Festival (CIP Festival) is set to open its doors for the eighth consecutive year from July 20 to July 24, 2025, at the historic Great Arsenal, located in the Old Port of Chania. This venue transforms each summer into a vibrant hub of photographic art, attracting enthusiasts from around the globe.
Co-organized by Blank Wall Gallery and the Municipality of Chania, the festival has established itself as a significant event in the international photography landscape, with an ever-growing audience and participation from diverse corners of the world. This year, approximately 350 artists will showcase their work, although the limited exhibition space means that not all submissions could be accommodated despite high interest.
Over its eight years of operation, the CIP Festival has featured works from artists hailing from more than 100 countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Bermuda, and many others. This impressive global participation underscores the festival’s continuous international appeal, making it a landmark event for the global photography community.
The exhibited photographs will be selected by an international jury of 17 judges, representing various countries and schools of photographic thought. This diversity ensures a high standard and a rich variety of perspectives within the exhibition.
During the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to view thousands of images across different themes, techniques, and visual narratives. They can also participate in the now-traditional Chania City Photo Marathon, a unique street competition where participants are challenged to capture the life and beauty of the city within a limited timeframe. The best photographs will be awarded by a special committee and showcased at the festival’s closing ceremony.
The organizers emphasize that the primary goals of the Chania International Photo Festival are to highlight artistic creation, enhance cultural tourism, and promote Chania as an international hub for cultural exchange. The growing number of submissions each year, the quality recognition of the entries, and the broad public engagement position the festival as an essential cultural institution with ongoing development.
