On July 16, 2025, the Giannis Ritsos Municipal Museum officially opened its doors to the public in the historic castle town of Monemvasia. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Efstathios of Monemvasia and Sparta, alongside the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.
The event marked the culmination of a challenging and painstaking effort by the Municipality of Monemvasia and the Ministry of Culture. The home of the renowned poet from Monemvasia has been transformed into a space dedicated to celebrating his life and extraordinary work, which resonates not only within Greece but also across the globe.
During the ceremony, Metropolitan Efstathios expressed his heartfelt joy and gratitude, emphasizing the significance of the museum. He remarked on the emotional weight of inaugurating a space where the poet of «Romiosyni» was born, highlighting Ritsos’s profound connection to Monemvasia.
