In a recent operation targeting illegal cannabis cultivation, law enforcement officials discovered a significant marijuana plantation in a remote forest area of the municipality of Sparta. This uncovering was the result of diligent investigative work conducted by the Drug Prosecution Unit of the Sparta Crimes Investigation Department, which utilized gathered intelligence effectively.
At the site, authorities uprooted and confiscated a total of 1,828 cannabis plants, each measuring up to one meter in height. These plants were found growing in six specially prepared and cleared areas, indicating a well-organized cultivation effort.
Additionally, the police seized corresponding irrigation and agricultural equipment, along with farming tools. Four tents were also discovered on-site, which the growers had set up for monitoring the plantation and as living quarters during the cultivation period.
The estimated profits that could have been generated from this illicit operation are staggering, amounting to approximately €3,656,000. This substantial figure highlights the scale of illegal drug operations and their potential impact on local communities.
