On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 21:00, the political association «The Source» will present the film «The Man of God» in the square of Agios Stefanos in Monemvasia. Directed and written by Yelena Popovic, this cinematic piece serves as a tribute to the life and trials of Saint Nektarios.
The film stars Aris Servetalis, a versatile Greek actor, who shares the screen with legendary American actor Mickey Rourke, Russian superstar Alexander Petrov, and an exceptional cast of Greek actors.
Synopsis
The story revolves around the popularity of Saint Nektarios, then Metropolitan of Pentapolis, which incited jealousy among certain clerics in Alexandria. Fearing he would become the next Patriarch of Alexandria, some members of the clergy defamed him, leading to his expulsion from Egypt. Upon arriving in Athens, he gained fame and admiration due to his advanced pedagogical methods, while simultaneously engaging in significant literary work. However, the burden of his responsibilities took a toll on him, prompting a retreat to Aegina, where he rebuilt a dilapidated monastery with his own hands, which grew in reputation due to his influence. Unfortunately, the monastery was never officially recognized, and Saint Nektarios was unjustly accused of immorality. Shortly after his death at the Aretaeio Hospital, he performed his final miracle.
