On May 5, 2026, a team from the Service of Modern Monuments and Technical Works in Patras conducted an inspection of four stone bridges located in the «Gkaganía» area of Molai. This initiative was prompted by a request from retired educator and author Nikolaos Argeitis, who is well-known for his efforts in documenting and preserving cultural heritage.
Present at the inspection were local officials, including Municipal Councilor Anastasios Theodorakakos and the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Argyris Evaggelakos. The inspection highlighted the significance of these stone bridges, which, like many others in Greece, are remarkable constructions from the era of the visionary Greek politician and modernizer Charilaos Trikoupis. These bridges were built between 1895 and 1896 by Italian craftsmen.
During the inspection, it became evident that the bridges required cleaning to remove waste materials. More critically, it was noted that cornerstones had been removed from their superstructure—elements essential for their stability and safety.
The overarching goal of this endeavor is to compile a final report based on the inspection findings and to create a documented file aimed at designating these structures as Historical and Preserved Monuments.
This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment to safeguarding Greece’s rich cultural heritage, ensuring that such historical landmarks are recognized and preserved for future generations.
