In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement in Laconia, a total of 17 cases of theft and attempted theft have been solved, thanks to the diligent investigation conducted by the Crime Investigation Department of Sparta. This operation has led to the identification of four local suspects, including an 18-year-old and three minors, who now face serious charges related to aggravated theft, with additional unknown accomplices still at large.
The investigation revealed that these young individuals had formed a group that operated with a clear methodology. From early January to early February of the current year, they targeted the broader areas of the Municipalities of Sparta and Monemvasia, committing a series of crimes that included:
- 6 vehicle thefts
- 10 thefts and attempted thefts at various businesses and shops
- 1 attempted burglary at a residential property
Operating primarily in the early morning hours, the group varied its composition with each crime, taking measures to conceal their identities. Initially, they would steal vehicles, which served as their means of transportation. Subsequently, they employed burglary tools to break into businesses, with the sole aim of locating and stealing cash and safes. After executing their plans, they abandoned the stolen vehicles at various locations throughout Laconia.
The Crime Investigation Department of Sparta continues its efforts to uncover any potential involvement of the suspects in other similar criminal activities and to identify their remaining accomplices. This ongoing investigation underscores the commitment of local authorities to combat crime and enhance community safety.
