The International Airport of Athens recently celebrated a significant milestone: its 25th anniversary. This year’s Airline Marketing Conference, held in honor of this occasion, brought together over 250 attendees, including representatives from various airlines, travel sectors, and tourism industries in Greece.

The central theme of the conference, “25 Years Routing for You,” cleverly played on the words «routing» and «rooting,» symbolizing the deep-rooted relationships and trust built over the years between the airport and its airline partners. Since its inception, the airport has worked closely with these partners to enhance connectivity, promote the country’s international presence, and create new opportunities for passengers and the tourism sector.

Joanna Papadopoulou, the Director of Communication and Marketing at the airport, emphasized the importance of resilience and collaboration in the aviation community. She noted that through various crises, they have supported Athens and worked together to achieve remarkable recoveries. The conference also served as a platform to reflect on the past 25 years, recognizing the enduring partnership between the airport and airlines.

The event featured a series of discussions and presentations on various topics, including geopolitical changes, resilience in the face of uncertainty, and the future outlook for the airline industry. Notable speakers included Stavros Ioannidis, a journalist from SKAI and CNN Greece, and Danny Crates, a Paralympic gold medalist who spoke about high performance during challenging times.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the annual Airline Awards, which recognize the best performances of airlines over the past year. This year, awards were given for the fastest growth in various markets, including domestic, Western Europe, and Eastern Europe, with notable mentions for airlines such as SKY Express, Cyprus Airways, and AEGEAN.

The conference concluded with remarks from the CEO of the airport, George Kalimasiaris, who reiterated the significance of the 25-year journey shared with airline partners. He expressed gratitude for their trust and collaboration, which have been vital for the airport’s development and the city of Athens.

In addition to the awards, the event honored MONUMENTA, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Greece’s cultural heritage, with the “You’re an Aθenian too” award, recognizing its contributions to the city’s identity and continuity.

This anniversary celebration not only marked a quarter-century of achievements but also set the stage for future collaborations and growth in an ever-evolving global landscape.
