The beloved Between the Seas Residency is making a vibrant return to Monemvasia after a two-year hiatus, running from June 20 to July 12, 2026. This initiative, which began nearly a decade ago, thrives on inspiration, remarkable works, strong friendships, and creative enthusiasm. In collaboration with the cultural space Kymothoë, the residency aims to leave a significant cultural mark in this unique locale.
This year, participants will engage with a new work from Bosnia titled “11 Minutes in Space” by Armin Berhem. This piece promises a surreal, existential, psychedelic journey of coming-of-age. What makes this process particularly intriguing is the collaborative nature of the translation, which is being developed alongside an actress during rehearsal.
Additionally, in partnership with community members of all ages from the Monemvasia area, the residency will present the work “We Are Afraid. We Learn to Count” by Jana Milivojevic. This poignant piece addresses the pressing issue of gender-based violence. Previous experiences with this work have demonstrated how such initiatives can mobilize participating communities and highlight the importance of raising awareness on these critical topics.
Open presentations and readings will take place at the Kymothoë cultural space on July 11 and 12. Access to these works has been made possible through the Sarajevo Theatre Showcase, an institution dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary Balkan creation.
This event not only celebrates artistic expression but also fosters community engagement, making it a significant cultural highlight for both participants and the local populace.
