The vibrant and rich tradition of Cretan dance will be showcased on March 16-17, 2026, in various towns within the Municipality of Monemvasia. This event promises to be a cultural feast, highlighting the authentic dance heritage of Crete.
Renowned researcher, author, and teacher of Cretan dances, Giannis Megalakakis, will be visiting Laconia to share his expertise and passion for this traditional art form. His extensive knowledge and experience make him a pivotal figure in the preservation and dissemination of Cretan dance.
The Cultural Association of Vatika and the Cultural & Educational Association of Asopos are organizing specialized seminars in Neapolis and Asopos, respectively.

About Giannis Megalakakis:
Giannis Megalakakis is a distinguished researcher, choreographer, lyricist, author, and teacher of Cretan dances. Hailing from Embrosnero in Chania and Asteri in Rethymno, he has dedicated decades to documenting the dances, music, history, folklore, customs, and traditions of the Cretan people.
Alongside his twin brother, Giorgos, he has presented original performances and special appearances in significant cultural venues and theaters both in Greece and abroad, collaborating with some of the most notable names in Cretan and contemporary Greek music.
He has authored lyrics, mantinades, and songs, and has conducted over 400 seminars on Cretan dances throughout Greece and in cities across Europe, the Americas, Canada, and Australia.
This event is not just a seminar; it is a celebration of Cretan culture, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the beauty and depth of its dance traditions.
