In a critical period for Greek olive oil, the General Assembly of the Association for the Production, Marketing, and Standardization of Greek Olive Oil (SYPETEEL) convened to elect its inaugural Board of Directors. This significant event marks a pivotal moment for the industry, as the newly formed board aims to address the challenges facing olive oil production in Greece.
The elected Board of Directors is composed of key figures from various regions known for their olive oil production. The President is Dimitrios Favvas from Dimitrios Favvas & Co. in Laconia, with Georgios Nikolaakis from ELASION S.A. in Lasithi serving as Vice President. The General Secretary position is held by Georgia Kyriakopoulou from Hellenic Oil Enterprises A.E. in Ilia, while Stefanos Vostanis from Katsakoulis A.E. in Lesbos takes on the role of Treasurer. Additional board members include Ioannis Manikis from MOLON LAVE A.E. in Laconia, Ioannis Sellas from Sellas Olive Oil Trading E.P.E. in Corinthia, and Christos Sp. Tagaris from Tagaris A.E. in Ilia.
The board also includes alternate members, such as Christos I. Vasilakis from Global United Trade in Heraklion, Apostolos Voliotis from Voliotis Family A.E. in Magnesia, and Stylianos Kloukiotis from Kloukiotis Stylianos in Samos, among others. Furthermore, the supervisory committee is comprised of Ioannis Adamopoulos from Gis Ergon Adamopoulos IKE in Ilia, Antonis Verdiakis from Verdiakis Antonis in Heraklion, and Georgios Stathakis from Stathakis Georgios & Co. in Laconia.
Notably, the 41 founding members of SYPETEEL represent approximately 90,000 tons of bulk olive oil and 10,000 tons of packaged olive oil, accounting for nearly 40% of Greece’s average annual production. This substantial representation underscores the importance of the association in promoting and supporting the Greek olive oil sector.
As the board embarks on its mission, the olive oil industry in Greece faces numerous challenges, including market competition and the need for quality assurance. The establishment of SYPETEEL is a strategic step towards enhancing the reputation and sustainability of Greek olive oil on both domestic and international fronts.
