The Association of Parents, Guardians, and Friends of Individuals with Autism in Laconia, known as «Spectrum of Life,» is actively working to enhance and promote the spirit of volunteerism within the community. They invite anyone interested in contributing their time, knowledge, and willingness to help to participate in the association’s initiatives.
The association emphasizes the invaluable role of volunteers, stating, «The contribution of volunteers is essential not only for the implementation of our activities but also for supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.» They highlight that even a few hours of free time can make a significant difference in a larger effort that fosters acceptance, inclusion, and solidarity.
Volunteer Opportunities with the Association
Volunteers can play an active role in organizing and executing both regular and special events held by the association each year, including:
- Christmas Bazaar: A multi-day festive event featuring handmade creations, decorations, gifts, and awareness activities.
- «Act for Autism – Run with Spectrum of Life»: A running event aimed at raising awareness about autism.
- Awareness and Information Events: Seminars, talks, and social initiatives designed to educate the community.
- Educational Programs and Creative Workshops: Opportunities for learning and creativity.
Volunteer Group for Families
The goal of this group is to foster meaningful friendships and support relationships with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. The group is open to both professionals in special education and anyone willing to offer their time and genuine presence. No prior experience is necessary, as volunteers will receive the required information and support from the association. Depending on individual interests and needs, volunteers can dedicate a few hours each week to participate in shared activities, outings, creative engagement, or simply providing companionship and human connection.
Before starting visits, volunteers will receive essential training and guidance from the action coordinators, and they will meet with families to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s needs, habits, and unique characteristics.
The association will cover any transportation costs incurred by volunteers.
Those interested in joining the association’s volunteer groups can reach out via the following contacts: 6974811919 (Margaret Spyridakou), 697 2570165 (Friday Georgakakou), and 697 2406204 (Eva Tsirigoti), or via email at fasmazois2024@gmail.com.
This initiative not only aims to support individuals with autism but also seeks to build a stronger, more inclusive community through the power of volunteerism.
