On April 29, the world will celebrate the Global Wish Day, a significant milestone for the Make-A-Wish organization. This date marks the anniversary of the first wish granted to a young boy named Chris, who, 46 years ago, became a police officer for a day. His inspiring story laid the foundation for the establishment of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
This year, Make-A-Wish Greece is commemorating its 30th anniversary and will host a series of walks titled “Walk for Wishes 2026” from April 26 to May 3. These walks will take place in 13 cities across Greece, including Athens, Thessaloniki, Edessa, Ioannina, Monemvasia, Sparta, Diakopto, Andros, Heraklion, Nafplio, Veria, Serres, and Chania.
The organization has announced that the walks will occur in the evening, aiming to illuminate the Greek sky in the signature blue of Make-A-Wish, adorned with the bright star necklace. Children whose wishes have been granted, along with their families, will lead the way. The walks serve as a tribute to all children who have bravely battled serious illnesses, honoring those who have recovered and remembering those who have illuminated the path for others.
In Monemvasia, the Make-A-Wish event will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, starting at the Castle Gate at 7:00 PM. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the area and its history, supported by the local elementary school.
The walks will be conducted in collaboration with local municipalities, which will illuminate monuments and landmarks to mark the end points of the routes.
Participation in these events is free of charge. For more information, visit the official Make-A-Wish website.
