The Marina of Monemvasia appears to have emerged with minor injuries from the recent severe weather that struck on Wednesday, January 20, affecting not only Monemvasia but the entire region of Laconia.
This maritime structure, having undergone various interventions in recent years, faced strong southeast winds, commonly known as the «sirocco.» For many hours, towering waves exerted immense pressure, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and concern.

It can be described as a crash test for the Marina of Monemvasia, which seems to have withstood the ordeal with only minor damages. Specifically, the lighthouse at the end was dislodged, and a small section of the protective boulders at its terminus was destroyed.

This wear and tear, according to maritime experts, should not go unnoticed. A recurrence of such weather phenomena could lead to further removal of protective boulders, leaving the main body of the Marina exposed and vulnerable.
