In a remarkable display of creativity and local pride, the fifth-grade students of the Monemvasia Primary School are participating in the 8th International Student Competition of Audiovisual and Digital Creation. This year’s theme, «Your story is the story of your city,» invites young minds to explore and express their connection to their community.
The students have crafted a compelling 15-minute documentary titled «Nomia: From Desks to Cinema.» Through this project, they aim to evoke memories and images from their recent past, showcasing the essence of their hometown. In a unique twist, the students take on the roles of both directors and stars, presenting the former Nomia Primary School, which has now transformed into a Cinema Club. This evolution reflects a journey through time, highlighting the building’s continued relevance in the community.
In their documentary, the students engage with individuals who once sat in the same classrooms, bridging the gap between past and present. They emphasize the importance of preserving history and collective memory, poignantly stating, «The building has changed its form but not its role. It continues to unite us, teach us, and move us.»
The International Student Competition of Audiovisual and Digital Creation is organized by the Educational Radio and Television of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports. Its primary goal is to illuminate local history through the eyes of students, fostering a deeper understanding of their heritage.
This initiative not only showcases the talents of young filmmakers but also serves as a vital reminder of the importance of community and shared experiences. As the students present their work, they contribute to a narrative that honors their past while looking forward to the future.
