On Sunday, February 1, 2026, a significant ecclesiastical event took place at the Church of Saint Demetrius in Monemvasia, marking a moment of joy and spiritual affirmation for the local community. The day began with the Orthros service followed by the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Efstathios, who played a pivotal role in the ceremony.
During this holy service, the esteemed Metropolitan ordained Deacon Dimitrios Kalapothos as a Presbyter. This ordination is meaningful as Presbyter Kalapothos is set to take on responsibilities within the parish, fostering spiritual growth and community engagement.
In his ordination speech, the newly appointed Presbyter expressed profound humility and a deep sense of duty in assuming the responsibilities of a priest of the Most High. He earnestly requested divine strength to fulfill his duties effectively. Additionally, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Metropolitan for the love and trust shown in him, as well as to his spiritual father, his family, and all those who have supported him in his vocational journey.
The Metropolitan’s response was equally impactful. He highlighted the crucial role that the clergy play in a world undergoing spiritual upheaval. His words were filled with paternal advice, emphasizing that the priesthood must be characterized by reverence for God, continuous prayer, sacrificial love for others, humility, forgiveness, and diligent work. His concluding wishes for Presbyter Dimitrios were filled with encouragement, affirming his commitment to support him in any challenges he may face.
Following the Divine Liturgy, it was customary for the new Presbyter to distribute antidoron, a traditional offering, marking his first priestly blessing. This act allowed the congregation to congratulate him and extend their wishes, reinforcing a sense of community and shared faith.
This event not only signifies the new beginning for Presbyter Dimitrios but also underscores the ongoing spiritual life and resilience of the Orthodox community in Monemvasia. The support and prayers of the congregation will undoubtedly play a vital role in his ministerial journey.
