On Sunday, August 3, 2025, the Parish Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Angelona hosted a significant religious event, featuring the Orthros service, the blessing of the loaves, and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Efstathios.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a traditional memorial service was held to honor the benefactors of the Parish. In his eloquent and meaningful address, the Metropolitan emphasized the importance of a healthy society remembering and honoring those who have contributed, whether from their means or surplus, for the common good, serving as examples for others to follow.
The event also included the ordination of three devoted residents of the village as Readers: retired police officer Mr. Christos Georgas, Agricultural Cooperative Manager Mr. Michail Psychouio, and the President of the village’s Agricultural Cooperative, Mr. Nektarios Lekakis. The Metropolitan spoke to the congregation about the significance of this rank within the lower clergy, congratulating the new Readers on their character, the Christian families they have built, and their contributions to the local Church. He encouraged them to continue on the path of virtue and service.
Additionally, the Metropolitan honored 91-year-old cantor Mr. Konstantinos Lekakis for his long-standing and dedicated service at the holy chanter’s stand.
Father Georgios Mahairas, the village priest, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Metropolitan for his spiritually enriching presence in the Parish and for the honors bestowed upon distinguished members of the local community. He concluded by wishing the esteemed Metropolitan continued health, spiritual clarity, and longevity as he approaches the milestone of 45 years in episcopal service, enabling him to continue his devoted ministry for many more years.
In response, the Metropolitan thanked Father Georgios and all parishioners for their love and well-wishes. He then conferred the title of Economos upon Father Georgios, wishing him to continue his fruitful ministry guided by faith in God, love for others, forgiveness, and repentance.
After the liturgical gathering, the village children presented the Metropolitan with a commemorative gift in a joyful atmosphere.
This event highlights the strong ties within the community and the ongoing commitment to honoring those who contribute to the spiritual and social fabric of the parish.
