On Saturday, January 3, 2026, a significant protest is set to take place, highlighting the strong opposition from various organizations, associations, and residents against the ongoing wind turbine installation project in the Parnon area. The event is organized by the «Initiative for the Protection of Kosmas,» the «Struggle Committee for the Salvation of Parnon,» the «Cultural Association of Leonidio,» and the «Climbing Association of Leonidio.» Participants are invited to gather at the «Festouchi» Monument in Kosmas, Arkadia, at 9:00 a.m. to express their unified stance against the establishment of the wind farm at the «Korompilia» site.
According to a recent announcement, the protest location marks the beginning of the road leading to the wind project currently under construction. It has been reported that in less than a month, the area has suffered extensive damage due to road construction through pristine forests and the cutting down of numerous mature fir trees.
The announcement emphasizes the urgency of the situation, stating:
«We invite you to raise awareness and observe the destruction occurring in our region. We have been standing at this site for two weeks, attempting to prevent further damage to the forest, trails, and grazing lands. The destruction is already immeasurable, yet the interventions made so far are minimal compared to what is required to complete the project. We will continue to stand here until we are vindicated. We urge you to join us and strengthen our cause.»
This protest reflects a growing concern among local communities regarding environmental preservation and the impact of renewable energy projects on natural landscapes. As the debate over wind energy intensifies, the voices of those advocating for the protection of their local environment are becoming increasingly prominent.
