As in previous years, numerous devoted pilgrims traveled from various villages, some walking several kilometers, to pay their respects to the saint’s holy relic and icon. The atmosphere was filled with reverence as attendees patiently awaited their turn to venerate these sacred items.
The festivities began on the eve of the feast with a solemn Vespers service and a special supplication led by His Grace Bishop Theophilos of Lakedaimonia. This was followed by a night Divine Liturgy for those who wished to remain in prayer.
On the day of the feast, the morning service and Divine Liturgy were presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Efstathios of Monemvasia and Sparta, accompanied by a multitude of priests. The sermon was delivered by Archimandrite Efstathios Porfyris, a prominent preacher within the Holy Metropolis.

Following the Divine Liturgy, hymns in honor of the saint were sung, and a sacred procession of the holy relics and icon took place around the church, accompanied by the melodic sounds of the Monemvasia municipal band.
Concluding the festive gathering, the bishop expressed gratitude to the parish priest, Reverend Father Ioannis Govatsos, and the church council for their meticulous organization of the event. He also acknowledged the participation of clergy, especially the former parish priest of Sykea, Father Stavros Varas, the talented chanters, local officials, and the faithful who attended in an orderly manner.
His Grace spoke about the challenging path of virtue and ultimately holiness that the honored saint followed, wishing that Saint Nectarios intercede for the salvation of souls and strengthen the community in facing life’s difficulties.
