Σοβαρές επιπτώσεις από τον πρόσφατο παγετό στους αμπελώνες Πελοποννήσου

In the heart of the Peloponnese, a region renowned for its rich viticultural heritage, a recent frost has raised alarm among local wine producers. The Union of Wine Producers of the Peloponnese, including the Union of Wine Producers of the Peloponnese Vineyards (ENOP), the Mantinians, and the Association of Wine Producers of Nemea (SON), have sounded the alarm regarding the severe impact of this unexpected weather phenomenon on their vineyards.

The intensity and extent of the frost have led to significant production losses across numerous vineyards, critically affecting the income of grape growers and the operations of wineries. The repercussions extend beyond the initial stages of production, influencing the entire wine value chain. This situation poses serious threats to the local economy, employment, and the international standing of Greek wines, particularly those with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

Industry stakeholders are in ongoing communication with the Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA), the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, and the Peloponnese Region. They are closely monitoring the situation and working to accurately assess the real impact on the ground. Regions with strong identities and export orientations, such as Mantinia and Nemea, are under increased pressure due to the reduction in production, necessitating immediate attention and coordinated management.

The announcement emphasizes the urgent need for substantial collaboration with relevant authorities. It calls for the swift assessment of damages, expedited compensation processes, activation of appropriate financial support mechanisms, and consideration of tax relief for affected producers. Additionally, it advocates for structural measures to enhance the protection of vineyards against extreme weather conditions in the future.

As the situation unfolds, the resilience of the Peloponnese wine industry will be tested, and the collective response from producers and authorities will be crucial in navigating these challenging times.
