In a commendable act of solidarity and cooperation, the Municipality of Sparta took a significant step on May 26, 2026, by donating plastic caps to the 5th Kindergarten of Sparta. This initiative aims to bolster the students’ efforts in recycling while contributing to the purchase of a wheelchair.
The kindergarten’s project, titled «Little Citizens, Big Smiles: Collecting Caps, Donating a Wheelchair,» is designed to instill values of generosity, collaboration, and solidarity among the children. This educational endeavor not only promotes environmental awareness but also encourages young minds to engage in meaningful community service.
Mayor Michalis Vakaloopoulos, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Social Policy and Education, Georgios Koulouvakos, the Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness and Recycling, Dimitris Giannopoulos, and the appointed municipal councilors for Primary and Secondary Education, Takis Barelos and Evgenia Papastathi-Sofou, visited the kindergarten. During this visit, they presented bags filled with plastic caps to the kindergarten director, Panagiotitsa Koutsari, to support the students’ initiative.
Mayor Vakaloopoulos emphasized the importance of recycling actions for environmental protection, especially when such efforts contribute to a noble cause like acquiring a wheelchair. He expressed gratitude to the children and Ms. Koutsari for their commitment to this initiative.
It is noteworthy that the 5th Kindergarten is implementing this project as part of the «Active Citizen Actions» program, which is linked to a Skills Laboratory focused on social awareness and responsibility. This initiative not only fosters environmental consciousness but also cultivates a sense of community among the young participants, highlighting the positive impact of collective efforts in addressing social needs.
