In a significant transition for the Molaon Nursing Unit, Konstantinos Koronios, the outgoing director, expressed deep emotions as he stepped down from his role. In his announcement, he reflected on his tenure, filled with memories and experiences, stating, «I leave filled with memories, experiences, and deep emotion.» He conveyed pride in the achievements made over the years, emphasizing that the progress was never a given.
Koronios highlighted the various projects, both large and small, that contributed to transforming the hospital into a modern, functional facility with enhanced quality. He confidently asserted, «Today, we can say with certainty that the Molaon Nursing Unit ranks among the best regional hospitals in the country, and this is not based on words but on actions and measurable results.»
In his farewell message, Koronios extended gratitude to all who supported him in this endeavor, including the administrative, nursing, and medical staff, as well as donors. He acknowledged that their generous support was crucial to the success of their mission and thanked the residents of Molaon and the broader Southeastern Laconia community for their trust and unwavering support.
Koronios’s announcement detailed his journey as the Deputy Director of the General Hospital of Laconia and the Molaon Nursing Unit. He described farewells as inherently challenging, particularly when leaving behind not just administrative work but a life’s mission. He reflected on the relationships built through hard work, sincerity, and mutual trust, which aimed to elevate the quality of healthcare—a vital social good.
From the outset, the strategic goal was clear: to transform the Molaon Nursing Unit into a model regional hospital. This vision, once deemed an «unattainable dream» for the residents of Southeastern Laconia, became a reality through meticulous planning, scientific expertise, and relentless effort, adhering to a patient-centered management model. Koronios noted that they successfully reversed a narrative of neglect, delivering a modern, functional, and qualitatively upgraded hospital.
He recounted the skepticism they faced, often hearing, «This cannot be done.» Yet, through determination and action, they achieved significant milestones, from acquiring a CT scanner to expanding the dialysis unit and upgrading facilities and medical equipment. He emphasized that even the smallest details can make a substantial difference, as «the small things create the big ones.»
In just 5.5 years, they accomplished what had not been realized in the previous two decades. Projects that had long been mere promises took shape within 68 months. The stark contrast between the hospital’s past and present speaks volumes, illustrating the difference between stagnation and progress.
Koronios acknowledged the emblematic interventions in infrastructure, the renewal and enhancement of medical technology, and the gradual staffing with new personnel. Most importantly, he highlighted the restoration of «healthcare dignity» for the citizens of Southeastern Laconia. He reiterated that the Molaon Nursing Unit is now among the best regional hospitals in Greece, a fact supported by tangible results.
He expressed heartfelt thanks to his colleagues at the Molaon Nursing Unit, who stood by him as partners and pillars of support. Their shared commitment and professionalism were instrumental in realizing their common vision. He also recognized the donors whose contributions were vital to their success, demonstrating social responsibility and solidarity.
Koronios concluded his message by thanking the residents of Molaon and Southeastern Laconia for their trust and support, stating that they are the ultimate judges of their work. He reflected on the past five years, filled with challenges and decisions, yet marked by measurable progress. He expressed pride in the work accomplished, which was never taken for granted.
While acknowledging that not everything was achieved, he emphasized the complexities faced by public officials in making decisions based on limited resources. He noted that effective governance often means not being universally liked, but rather serving the public interest with consistency.
He stressed that the journey of upgrading the Molaon Nursing Unit is ongoing and must not be halted. Immediate reinforcement of medical staff is essential, both in quantity and quality, to meet the increasing demands of a growing population in a geographically remote area. Additionally, the modernization of infrastructure and medical technology must continue to ensure that the Molaon Nursing Unit remains at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements.
Looking ahead, Koronios urged that the next phase should build upon the achievements of the past five years and exceed them. While this is no easy task, he believes that with consistency, collaboration, and continuity, the Molaon Nursing Unit can become a reference point for the public healthcare system in Laconia and beyond, ensuring the sustainability of a project that has already proven its value and potential.
He expressed gratitude for the trust, collaboration, and support he received throughout his journey, stating, «Thank you very much!» In closing, he reassured that he would remain available to support any efforts that serve the common good, emphasizing that this is not a farewell, as his personal ties to the community will endure.
